Original Research on Search & AI in the Firearms, Hunting & Outdoor Industries
The big AI-search studies cover SaaS and e-commerce. Nobody had measured how any of it behaves in a regulated industry, so we ran the studies ourselves. Everything we found is published here: the methodology, the data, and what it means for a 2A or outdoor brand's next twelve months.
Measured, Counted & Published in Full
Every claim on these pages traces back to a number we collected ourselves. Here is the scale of the program so far.
Three Studies, One Question
When someone asks Google or an AI engine about firearms, hunting, or outdoor gear, what actually happens? Each study measures a different layer of that question.
The State of AI Search in the Firearms & Outdoor Industry
We asked six AI engines 240 questions, ten times each, and traced every citation. Firearm questions get answered 91–97% as completely as matched controls, and the sources AI trusts are not the ones most brands invest in.
The State of Search in the Firearms & Outdoor Industry
A demand map of ~225 2A search terms: where the volume is, which queries trigger AI Overviews, and why keyword tools overstate this market. YouTube appears on 99% of search volume. AI Overviews concentrate on research queries and skip the big product terms.
Search Seasonality in the 2A & Outdoor Industries
24 months of search history across 22 categories. Firearms demand swings a mild 1.2–1.8× across the year. Outdoor categories swing up to 12.8×, on four different calendars. Includes the interactive planning calendar.
The Industry Deserved Its Own Numbers
2A and outdoor brands have been planning against benchmarks borrowed from SaaS and e-commerce, or against no benchmarks at all. Some of those borrowed numbers hold up in this industry. Several do not.

◎Measured, With the Method Shown
Each study page includes the full methodology, the sample sizes, and the data behind every figure. If you want to check our work, everything you need is on the page.

⚖Reported Straight, Including Against Ourselves
Where the data contradicts a common sales pitch, including ones that would help an agency like ours, we say so. AI engines answering firearm questions at near-normal rates is finding #1, and it undercuts the "AI censors guns, panic now" story.

△Limits Stated Plainly
These are first-run studies with smaller samples than the giant cross-industry benchmarks (Ahrefs studied 75,000 brands; we studied one industry deeply). Each page states exactly what the data can and cannot support.

↻Built to Repeat
The collection harnesses are reusable, so these studies re-run on a schedule. Each wave adds trend lines the single snapshot cannot show: how visibility shifts, which brands gain, and how the demand calendar moves.
Want This Rigor Applied to Your Brand?
The same measurement behind these studies runs inside our client work: AI visibility tracked across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, and ChatGPT, with share-of-voice reported on non-branded prompts. If your brand competes in firearms, hunting, or outdoor, we can show you where you stand.
